About Me

Connection is why we are here. We are hard-wired to connect with others. It is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and without it, there is suffering.” Brene Brown

Welcome to www.allthingsgoingsouth.com. I am so glad you stumbled on this blog and hope you stop by more frequently. I am a born and bred 40-something Nigerian who lives in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was a pre-schooler when New Edition sang ‘Candy Girl’ and a teenager when Whitney Houston released ‘I will always love you’. I am a crossbreed of the Generation X and Millennial generation, simply because my existence came about when Generation X was finishing up, making way for the Millennial generation. I am what is called a Xennial- “a word that refers to people born on the cusp between Generation X and the millennials”, according to the Merriam- Webster dictionary. Yeah, I also don’t know how to pronounce it, didn’t even realize there was such a term.

  1. Serious, quiet, frank, conscientious and weird are some adjectives people might describe me by. And while I admit to being all that, I am also talkative, fiercely loyal, practical, polite, curious, caring, down to earth, frivolous, self-aware, confused, open as a book, silly, indecisive, independent, flippant and shy. And as much as I don’t like small talk, I have my random spells of extroversion.
  2. I have a daughter, a husband, and a 9-to-5 job. I’m often a homebody on weekends. I love people and those I love, I love passionately. I am that person who meets someone and if it’s ‘like-at-first-sight’, I reach out. It’s one of my regular joyful activities.
  3. Finally, I know what it means to hit rock bottom, to bounce back, to be resilient, to be weak, to be underestimated, to excel, to be hopeless, to feel lost, to doubt myself, to wander, to conquer, to feel left behind, to be confused, to be a fighter, to feel stuck in a rut and to keep going against all odds. These are things we all share as humans and these gave way to allthingsgoingsouth.com. Life has gone down south for me many times and somehow, I managed to make the best of these challenges. This is why I hope we can share real solutions to daily challenges through this blog.

It’s a blog about navigating the daily, real issues of life, the ones we don’t talk about, those we ponder on in the tranquil corners of our hearts, the issues we covertly google, the ones you talk to only your best friends about. I want to share some of my life interests with you and know your views about some 1,001 thoughts in my head; hopefully, we can be better empowered to navigate life’s daily emotional, and personal challenges and happenings together. So, here’s a big welcome to you and it, and cheers to us making the best of life.

Thanks for stopping by and chat soon xoxo
